Driven By Bacon

Editing

On a 2 week road trip I hit the road with a film crew in a RV, documenting the journey of Eric Pierson riding across America on a diesel motorbike. The bike was powered by bacon grease... yes literally Driven by Bacon.  As a promotion of Hormel's Black Label Bacon, we interviewed everyday Americans to find out what drives them in their everyday lives. We began the journey in Austin, Minnesota and drove across South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and ended in San Diego, California. The film was shot on the RED Epic at 5K and I was brought on as the Editor to cut the film, handle the beastly footage, but also cut 15 second daily teasers from the road which proved to be quite a challenging but rewarding experience.

Driven By Bacon has picked two silver Addy Awards at the 2015 national American Advertising Awards, and also won Best of Show at the 2015 AdFed Competition

Working on any documentary, there is never a fixed wrap time, you have to capture the story as it happens and just roll with the punches.  I love road trips, particularly traveling across America you get to see a lot of iconic and beautiful scenery, as well as meet some unique characters.

After the shoot was wrapped, the film was brought back to Minneapolis and cut together in a week and then sent off for final sound mixing and color grading before premiering at the San Diego Bacon Festival.  This was definitely one of the largest projects I have worked on thus far and was equally rewarding in experiences and the people I got to work with. Stay tuned for more photos from the trip and check out the full cast and crew list below.
